The Newman Center's first, annual Benefit Dinner was a great success! Jennifer Kaeser, the Newman Center's new, part-time Director of Development helped to organize this amazing event. Over 230 guests came to Fr. John Hay's family farm to support Catholic campus ministry.
The Newman Center would like to thank all of the parishioners and students who worked in a thousand different ways to prepare for the Benefit Dinner. It definitely helped to bring the Newman Center students closer together as they helped plate food and serve tables. Funds raised at the Benefit Dinner will directly assist the Newman Center in carrying out its important ministry to college students on the campus of Wichita State University. Everyone had a great time and are looking forward to next year's event.
Also, the Newman Center is very grateful to all of the area businesses and individuals who donated wonderful items for our silent auction. Please continue to pray for the success of our Newman Center ministry and we hope to see you at next year's Newman Center Benefit Dinner. |

The Library contains over 2,000 volumes of books.
|
|
The Maura and Robert Geist Family Library contains a large number of volumes in philosophy, theology, spirituality
and the lives of the saints. Students have access to the library/conference room for individual or group study. We hope that you
enjoy the new space!
Fr. John Hay was recently quoted in the Catholic Advance saying, “Students are truth seekers; they want to learn and are thirsting for knowledge”. Our library is one of the largest collections in the diocese full of knowledge ranging from spirituality, theology, the sacraments, biblical study, Christ, Mary, and church history. There is also a constant influx of new information in the form of Catholic periodicals and newspapers. “Our focus”, stated by Fr. John, “is to help the student develop, and to offer opportunities to grow spiritually and intellectually.” This focus makes our library an essential tool in bringing it to fruition.

On Saturday, April 23rd at the Solemn Easter Vigil St. Paul Newman Center welcomed 5 new members into the Church! The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) goes from the beginning of the Fall semester all the way through to the Easter Vigil. Candidates (already baptized) and Catechumens (not yet baptized) gathered weekly for instruction and fellowship. It was a great class and a great year! Thank you to everyone who helped prepare them, either formally or through your witness. |

A very generous gift of books was made by an anonymous donor to be distributed to the faithful after Easter Mass. The book is A Father Who Keeps His Promises by Dr. Scott Hahn. I was fortunate to have taken a course in Old Testame
nt with Dr. Scott Hahn my first year of major seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum. This book is both incredibly approachable and informative--and there is no doubt that it will help you better understand the sacred pages of Scripture. The books will be distributed after the Solemn Easter Vigil and after Easter Mass on Sunday morning! Fr. John |
